Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 3, 2012 at St. John the Baptist Abbey Church for John M. Pflueger, age 90, of Collegeville, who passed away on Sunday, September 30, 2012 at the Assumption Home in Cold Spring after complications due to an infection. Reverend Nathanael Hauser, OSB will officiate. Burial will take place in the Parish Cemetery.



John was born on March 30, 1922 in Collegeville, Minnesota to Matt and Elizabeth (Fruth) Pflueger. He married Joan E. Himsl on September 27, 1951 at St. Benedict's Catholic Church in Avon. Throughout his life, John owned and operated the St. Joe Meat Market from 1948 until 1968 and continued to be the Market's livestock buyer, owned the former Sauer Store in St. Joseph, was a part-time real estate investor and developer. However his primary occupation was a farmer, father and husband. He was a lifelong member of St. John the Baptist Parish in Collegeville.

He is survived by his wife, Joan; children, Gary (Toni) of St. Joseph, Julie (fiancé Dale Lord) Pflueger of The Woodlands, TX, Vickie (Tom) Wicks of St. Joseph, Penny (Randy) Mertes of Cave Springs, AR, Chris of St. Joseph, and Wendy (Christopher) Valley of San Francisco, CA; grandchildren, Ben, Sara, Becky, Matthew, Nicolas, Jessica, Leia, Luke, Jared, Evan, Erin, and Ellen; five great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

John was preceded in death by his parents; brothers and sisters, Mary Zazek, Caroline Silvers, Alfred, Veronica Westerhoff, Herman, Ann Mayer, and Robert; two infant brothers and two infant sisters.
