MRS. H.C. GILSON

Clara Thompkins, daughter of Robert and Elizabeth Thompkins was born in the town of Maryland, Otsego County, New York on August 6, 1842 and died at Burr Oak, Michigan on March 4, 1923 at the age of nearly 81 years.

She was the youngest of a family of eight children, all of whom have proceded her in death. All of her early life up to the time of her marriage was spent in or near the town of her birth in New York state.

She was married Aoril 15, 1880 to William Wilson of Burr Oak, Michigan and spent the next twenty years of her life at Mr. Wilson's farm home where their only child, Belle, was born and reared under the tender care of this loving mother.

In the year 1900 the family moved to Burr Oak where Mr. Wilson passed away five years later.

She was married to Harlow Gilson of this village Apr. 3, 1912 and he and the daughter, Mrs. Belle Terpning and a stepdaughter, Mrs. Emily Plant of Salt Lake City, Utah, survive her. She also leaves two nephews and two nieces in New York state, a nephew in Columbus, Ohio and a niece in Claifornia, also many, many friends who will feel most keenly the loss of this kind an gracious woman.

Her last sickness was of but a few days duration. A cold that did not at first appear to be of a serious nature developed into pneumonia which, becuase of her advanced age, no medical skill or careful nursing could relieve. She passed away last Sunday morning at her home on Fifth Street.

Her life was an example of industry and charity and was filled with acts of kindness to others. She was very devoted to her family and home and also took a lively and sympathic interest in the welfare of her friends for whom she was always ready to lend a helping hand in time of need.

She was for many years a member of the Eastern Star Lodge of this village.

In the demise of this noble lady the community as well as the family suffer an irrepabele loss.

Funeral services were held from the home Wednesday afternoon with burial in the Sturgis cemetery.

We wish to express our appreciation to the many friends and neighbors for kindness shown during the illness and death of our wife and mother and for the beautiful floral tributes.
