He was married in 1843 to Nancy Gwartney. They had 9 children of which 5 died in infancy or very young. About 1860 the Enlow family among other Mauckport families went on a flat boat down the Ohio River and up to Mississippi River to near Minneapolis, Minn. Most of the families returned soon after arriving but the Enlow family lived there during the Civil War. They were harassed by the Sioux Indians who would just walk right into their house. They returned to Mauckport and moved to Missouri. Several of their children died of Diarrhea. After his wife died of Diarrhea, Nelson moved back to Mauckport, Indiana where he died in 1899.

Gravesite Details
Family historian indicated that Nelson is buried in Otterbein Cemetery, Laconia, Harrison County, Indiana. However a search of that cemetery was fruitless. A local historian indicates that he may be buried in the Mauckport Cemetery.
