Mrs. Johanna Rieker, a resident of this community for the past 12 years, died Wednesday evening in a local hospital. She had been ill the past eight weeks. She made her home with her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Chris Christensen, 115 West Ninth. Funeral services will be conducted at 9:30 o'clock Saturday morning in the Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home. The Rev. Martin Schroeder, pastor of Messiah Lutheran Church will conduct the services. Following the services here, the remains will be taken to Eustis where funeral rites will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. in St. John's Lutheran Church of Eustis. Burial will be in Eustis Cemetery.
Mrs. Reiker was born Nov. 14, 1868, in Wittenburg, Germany, the daughter of Conrad and Christine Spahr. She and Jacob Rieker were married in August, 1890, in Necker, Germany, and shortly after their marriage they came to America and made their home at Seward. A short time later they moved to a farm in Frontier County and farmed the same farm until their retirement in 1925. Mrs. Rieker lived in Eustis until the death of her husband in 1935 and for the past 12 years she has made her home with her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Chris Christensen, Grand Island.
She is survived by three sons, William Rieker, Cozad, Ludwig Rieker, Eustis, and Herman Rieker of Farnam; one daughter, Mrs. Chris Christensen, of Grand Island; one brother, J. C. Spahr, Eustis; and three sister, Mrs. Caroline Winters of Lowa, Mich., Mrs. Louise Fickenscher, Curtis, and Mrs. Helen Velte of Hopewill, Va.; six grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. She was preceded inn death by her husband, her parents, and one sister.
