Melvin Ernest Jacks, 75, died Monday, October 1, 2012, after a long struggle with COPD. Visitation will be from 9 to 10 am Saturday, October 6, at St Patrick's Church, 1086 N 94th Street, Kansas City, Kansas, followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 10 am. Burial after Mass at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
Melvin was born in Kansas City, Kansas on July 11, 1937, to Ernest and Rose (Kroge) Jacks. He was a 1955 graduate of Washington High School. Melvin and Barbara Maciaszek were married on September 5, 1959. He was then drafted into the US Army and served his tour of duty in Germany. He retired from Oneok (formerly The Gas Service Company) after thirty-three years. Melvin was baptized into the Catholic faith in 1969 at St Patrick's and was a lifetime member.
Melvin and Barbara celebrated their 53rd anniversary and she survives. He is also survived by his mother, Rose I Jacks, two sons and their families, Bruce and Adrienne and children, Austen, Gracen and Magella, all of Winter Park, Florida, and Paul and Karen and children, Christopher, Tyler, Colton and Ella, all of Henderson, Nevada. He is also survived by his sister, Norma Clark and her husband Howard of Albuquerque, New Mexico; and in- laws, Paul Maciaszek and his wife JoAnn of Basehor, Kansas, Michael Maciaszek of Mission, Kansas, and Theresa Bailey of Goshen, Indiana, and two nieces and five nephews. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to St Patrick's Church or to Catholic Community Hospice, 9740 W 87th Street, Overland Park, KS 66212, with thanks for their support and care.
