Emma was many things in life, including a lawyer, artist, a musician, a dedicated fundraiser and a patron of the arts. Above all, she was a devoted wife, mother, and loving friend.
Emma grew up in New York City where her father practiced law, attending Convent of the Sacred Heart until the family moved to Upper Saddle River, New Jersey, where she completed her high school at Saddle River Day School. She attended Smith College and after obtaining her BA, went on the Tulane University Law School for her law degree.
After clerking for a judge, Emma decided that her professional calling was outside the traditional bounds of law and decided to move back to her much beloved New York City to work at the Metropolitan Opera, holding a position as the Associate Director of Major Gifts. Emma was passionate about her work as she had been raised in a home that loved the opera.
She met her futue husband Joel while working at the Metropolitan Opera. They married Juy 1, 2000 and began their ife together in Winston-Salem, N. C. Emma involved herself in fundraising at the Winston-Salem Arts & Entertainment Partnership but stayed home after the birth of their son. A daughter and another son were to follow.
Emma's faith was the cornerstone of her life and she relied on the words in the Bible to give her strength throughout her life.
She will be forever loved and missed by family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her father Charles Edward Buhrman and her mother Laurel Chenault Buhrman.
She is survived by her husband Joel Hutcheson, her three children, and many loving family and friends.
The memorial service will be held Saturday, Oct. 6, 2012 at 10:30 a. m. at Christ Presbyterian Church, Edina Chapel, MN.
