A native of Spartanburg County, he was the son of the late Charley Abernathy and Quinnie (Seal) Abernathy and the husband of Doris (Fletcher) Abernathy.
Retired employee with Sunbelt Containers, he attended Woodruff Kingdom Hall.
Survivors in addition to his wife of the home, include one daughter, Teresa Abernathy of Florida; four sons, Victor Abernathy, Wayne Abernathy, Randy Abernathy and Karsten Abernathy, all of Spartanburg; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
The family received friends 1:00-1:45 PM on Monday, October 8, 2012, at Forest Hills Funeral Home, prior to the 2:00 PM graveside service to be held at Forest Hills Memorial Park Cemetery in Woodruff, officiated by Mr. Walter Herd.
