Jewell Dennis Hemmingsen, Sr., of Primrose, NE, passed away Sunday, October 7, 2012 at his home. Jewell, son of Ted and Catherine "Pauline" (Kershaw) Hemmingsen, was born July 30, 1941 at Methodist Hospital in Omaha, NE.

Jewell attended grade school at Primrose, NE and graduated from Primrose (NE.) High School in 1958. He entered the United States Army on February 3, 1964 and was honorably discharged on January 20, 1966.

On July 25, 1969, Jewell was united in marriage to Paulette Bartunek at Primrose, NE. They made their home east of Primrose, NE. where Jewell farmed.

Jewell was a member of the Primrose (NE.) Presbyterian Church and was a member of Alcoholics Anonymous for 34 years. He enjoyed telling tall tales (fiction and non-fiction), fishing, farming, scratch tickets, engaging in a mean game of pinochle, spending time with his family, taking in western movies, and driving around the countryside. He would often reminisce of his days in the Army and younger years and was very proud of his hometown Primrose, NE.

Jewell is survived by: wife Paulette Hemmingsen of Primrose, NE.; sons: Jewell Hemmingsen, Jr. and wife Mary of Primrose, NE., Todd Hemmingsen and wife Gina of Omaha, NE., Joel Hemmingsen and wife Brandi of Primrose, NE., Dustin Hemmingsen and wife Tamara of Fullerton, NE. and Kelly Schaefer and wife Jenny of Albion, NE.; daughters: Tammy Jenson and husband Dave of Columbus, NE., Melanie Hemmingsen of Wellington, FL., Karmen Meysenburg and husband Jim of Albion, NE.; grandchildren: Jacob and Jessica Jenson; Mercedes, Austin, Rachel, Joshua, Theodore, Josie, Nathan, Mason, Ella and Gabe Hemmingsen. Michael & Evan Meysenburg, Matt, Alex, Tanner, Trey, Ashton and Jaxson Schaefer; and his huge AA family.

Jewell was preceded in death by: parents, Ted and Pauline Hemmingsen.

Interment was in the Dublin Cemetery, Primrose, NE. with military rites conducted by American Legion Post #347 of Primrose, NE.
