Davis was very ill when when visited by Abdu'l-Baha in April 1912, and he died just a day later. A few days after laying the cornerstone for the future Baha'i House of Worship in Wilmette, May 4, 1912, Abdu'l-Baha visited the gravesite of Davis, and other members of the True family. He prayed for all of the people laid to rest at Oakwood Cemetery and the obelisk has been raised to make that occasion.
