Bill spent his early years in the small Musgrove community prior to his family moving onto Broadway St in Winnsboro. His father died when he was about 16 years old. Later his mother remarried and they moved to Marshall.
August 28, 1919 Bill enlisted with the US Navy. Upon his discharge, he married Carolyn Cronk and they had one daughter Lenna Ruth Willard.
Bill needed to move from Waxahachie to find employment and that is why he and Carolyn divorced.
He later met and married Louisa Holden and they married May 10, 1936 in Plaquemine, LA. He and Louisa had 3 daughters and one son.
Bill was skilled in the steel industry and retired from Ethyl Corp. He also had a work shop in his back yard. There he designed and helped to construct a diving helmet that became known within the Baton Rouge area.
Bill enjoyed traveling and annually took the children around the country, making sure to stop by and visit relatives that lived along their route.
He was also a Mason and belonged to the Istrouma Lodge in Baton Rouge.
