Published in the Piscataquis (ME) Observer 24 Jul 1879 p3: "DEXTER---Mr. Jeremiah Abbott, an old and much respected citizen, died Monday evening, after a short illness, aged nearly 89 years. He was one of the pioneers in woolen manufacturing in Maine. He came with his brother Amos from Andover, Massachusetts, in 1820. There were but few people settled here then. The brothers first bought a small 'carding mill' located where their saw mill now stands, and in 1825 erected their present woolen mill, which has run almost continually, since. The two brothers formed the copartnership, 'Amos Abbott & Co.,' which is continued by Job Abbot, Esq., son of Jere, and Geo. A. Abbott, son of Amos. This firm has won a reputation for square and honorable dealing not excelled by any business house in the State. The funeral occurs to-day."
