Edgar C. Brewster enlisted at age 25 as a Sergeant in the Third Independent Battery, Wisconsin Volunteer Light Artillery on Sep 7, 1861 for three years. This unit mustered into service at Camp Utley, Racine, Wisconsin on Oct 10, 1861. Prior to the unit's departure from the camp in Jan 1862, Sgt Brewster was discharged due to disability.
Edgar Brewster tried again to enter the Army, enlisting as a Private in Company K, 16th Wisconsin Infantry, on Feb 14, 1862. He was once again discharged on Oct 19, 1862.
Born in New York, he married Dorothy Granger and lived out his life in Wisconsin.
