Mr. Ralph L. Cochran, 79, of Fayetteville and Covington died Friday at his home in Fayetteville.

Mr. Cochran was born Aug. 24, 1923 in Meriwether County. He was the son of the late Lucious and Pearl Parks Cochran.

He served in the Civilian Conservation Corps prior to World War II and was an Army veteran of World War II. He lived in the Atlanta area for many years, retired from the City of Atlanta Fire Department after 27 years of service. He was a member of Liberty Baptist Church in Riverdale.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Mildred Teague Hurley Cochran of Fayetteville; two daughters, Mrs. Linda Mericle of Covington and Mrs. Cathy Vickers of Morrow; two sons, Mark Cochran of Covington and Michael Chastain of Conyers; a step-daughter, Mrs. Marcia Owen of Atlanta; one sister, Mrs. Rachel Pitts of Columbus; two brothers, Carl Cochran of Douglasville and Marion Cochran of Ellenwood; ten grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and two step-grandchildren.

The funeral will be at 4 p.m. Sunday in the chapel of the Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home in Hogansville. Mr. J.T. Reeves will officiate and interment will be in Myrtle Hill Cemetery in Hogansville.
