Burgert, Joseph (Feb. 1796-Sept. 19, 1889 –husband of Maria Anna Riesterer –born at Obermunsterthal, Amt Staufen, Baden –arrived in New York on the boat New York from Havre, France with Fr. Oschwald on Aug. 1, 1854 –traveling with him was his wife Maria Anna –farmer in Town of Liberty –on March 15, 1859 purchased the 40 acres of the NE1/4 of the SW1/4 of Section 19, Town of Liberty and had a log house built –after the death of his wife Maria Anna on Aug. 18, 1869, Joseph lived here with Susanna Schoch –in the 1880 census for the Town of Liberty, both Joseph Burgert and Susanna Schoch are shown living here –on April 19, 1888 Joseph sold his half interest in this 40 acre farm to Susanna Schoch, with Joseph then dying on Sept. 19, 1889 –Susanna continued to live here until selling the 40 acre farm to John Adelman on Nov. 18, 1890 –for many years following the log house for this property stood vacant –from Dec. 27, 1867 to Oct. 27, 1870, Burgert owned the 10 acres of the NE1/4 of the NE1/4 of the NE1/4 of Section 6, Town of Meeme and the 20 acres of the E1/2 of the SE1/4 of the SE1/4 of Section 31, Town of Liberty –died Town of Liberty) –buried at St. Gregory Catholic Cemetery in St. Nazianz, Town of Eaton [buried in Section 1, Row 9, Lot 25 –stone] [no county death record]
