Burkard, Ignatz (Jan. 20, 1869-Jan. 26, 1940 –husband of Susan Platten [married Nov. 30, 1921 at St. Gregory Catholic Church in St. Nazianz, Town of Eaton] –son of Ignatz Burkard and Caroline Eckerle –born in Village of Buehl, Baden –baker –in 1894 immigrated to the US and the Town of Eaton to live with his brother Anton –in the 1900 census for the Town of Eaton, Ignatz is shown living with the family of his brother Anton Burkard –also living there was his sister Mary –“in 1902 established a bakery in St. Nazianz, which he has since operated” –on May 13, 1902 purchased the house and the business at 109 South Fourth Avenue in St. Nazianz and turned them into his residence and bakery shop –both these buildings were destroyed in the fire of April 5, 1918 –a new and larger bakery was then build in 1919 –Ignatz lived at this residence until his death in 1940 –his widow Susan continued to live here until selling to the St. Nazianz State Bank in 1963 –from Feb. 7, 1907 until his death in 1940, Ignatz owned 120 acres of woodland in the NE1/4 of Section 32, Town of Eaton –his wife Susan sold this land on Oct. 26, 1950 –died from “coronary thrombosis –auricular fibrillation” “Although not in good health in recent weeks, Mr. Burkard continued active in his bakery. Last night he went to the basement to bank the furnace fire for the night and was stricken, dying in a few minutes.”) –buried at St. Gregory Catholic Cemetery in St. Nazianz, Town of Eaton [buried in Section 2, Row 13, Lot 22 –stone] [marriage record Manitowoc 17-337] [death record Manitowoc 33-170]
