Lawrence A. Burkart, age 72, of St. Nazianz, died Tuesday afternoon, May 12, 1998 at Holy Family Memorial Medical Center, Manitowoc.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 7 p.m. Friday, May 15, 1998, at St. Gregory Catholic Church, St. Nazianz. Rev. Gerald Sirois will officiate, with cremation to follow.

He was born May 19, 1925, at St. Nazianz, son of the late Louis and Caroline Kautzer Burkart. He attended St. Gregory School, and was a 1943 graduate of Valders High School. Larry was the owner of Burkart’s Store, St. Nazianz, for many years. He married the former Jean Ryan on August 1, 1946 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Clarks Mills. He was a first scout master of St. Nazianz Boy Scouts of America, and a former member of the St. Nazianz Lion’s Club, and St. Nazianz Village Board.

Survivors include his wife, Jean; two sons and two daughters-in-law, Thomas and Pat Burkart, Reedsville, Paul and Janise Burkart, Jackson, Tenn., a daughter, Mary Burkart and her fiancé, Anthony Baer, Kiel; two grandchildren, Carrie Ann Burkart and Kevin Burkart; and two sisters-in-law, Carolyn Burkart, Manitowoc, Daisy Burkart, St. Nazianz. He is furthur survived by brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by three infant daughters, three brothers and one sister.
