David Henderson Young, 79, Kokomo, died at 5:20 p.m. Monday, July 25, 2011, at his home. He was born March 5, 1932, in Kokomo, the son of Arthur and Nellie Mae (Henderson) Young. On May 31, 1954, in Kokomo, he married Martha Jane Stevens, who survives.

David was a 1950 graduate of Kokomo High School and a 1954 graduate of Purdue University. He was a lieutenant in the U.S. Navy, serving from 1953 to 1955. He was the general manager of Midwest Plating from 1955 to 1979 and ran Plating Products until his retirement in 2001. He was a member of First Congregational Christian Church, Rotary International, YMCA Y's Men, Purdue Alumni Association, American Legion Post 253 and 777, Howard County Historical Society and N.F.I.B. He was an outdoor enthusiast who enjoyed playing golf, bird watching, playing bridge and spending time with his family and friends.

David is survived by his wife, Jane Young, Kokomo; four sons, Steve Young, Noblesville, Rob Young and wife Terri, Chapel Hill, N.C., Kent Young and wife Sheila, Davenport, Iowa, and Rick Young and wife Denise, Kokomo; grandchildren, Brad Davis and wife Kelly, Rob Young and wife Julie, Camille Meiners and husband Keith, Angela Vande Voort and husband Tom, David Young, Alishia Young, Christie Young, Sgt. Richard Young and wife Trina, Jill Young and Joe Young; and three great-grandchildren, Royce Young, Mayla Young and Conner Vaughn.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Phil Young.

Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Shirley & Stout Funeral Home, Lincoln Road Chapel, 1315 W. Lincoln Road, with Pastor Ray Houser officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery with military honors provided by the U.S. Navy and the VFW Military Rites Team. The family will receive friends from noon until service time Saturday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the veteran's service organization of the donor's choice.
