(Dec. 17, 1855-June 7, 1900 –husband of Helen Lackerman [married May 15, 1877 at Brothertown, Calumet County] –son of John Michael Casper and Anna Elizabeth Ternes [John Michael Casper was born March 30, 1804 in Bruck, Rhineland Palatinate, near Koblenz, Germany and died there about 1860 –married Anna Elizabeth Ternes before 1835 and had 8 children, 4 of whom immigrated to the US with their mother via New York in May of 1866 –the four children, in order of birth, were Hubert (1846-1928), Katherine Casper Wicklein (Feb. 17, 1847-Oct. 11, 1931), John (Dec. 20, 1850-?) and Joseph (Dec. 17, 1855-June 7, 1900) –Anna Elizabeth Ternes was born May 12, 1812 and died May 20, 1883 and is buried at Holy Trinity Catholic Cemetery in Jericho, Town of Brothertown, Calumet County] –born in Bruck near Koblenz, Germany –immigrated to the US with his widowed mother and 3 siblings in 1866 –on April 25, 1878 Joseph purchased a half-acre lot on the west side of County W in the Community of Slab City in Section 10, Town of Eaton and created a house and blacksmith shop on this lot –owned this shop until selling on Jan. 19, 1881 to George Sukowaty and moving to St. Nazianz –blacksmith in St. Nazianz, starting in 1881 –“Blacksmith, Wagon maker, and Horseshoer” –on Feb. 19, 1881 purchased the house and blacksmith shop at 102 East Main Street in St. Nazianz –owned these buildings until his death in 1900 –his widow Helen then sold this house and blacksmith shop on Feb. 1, 1901 to Nicholas Backhaus –on Feb. 20, 1890 purchased the vacant lot at 107 South Fourth Avenue in St. Nazianz and had a farm implement business opened there –many of these implements were made at his blacksmith shop –in 1902 his widow, Helen, sold this business –died from “cerebral softening –alcoholism”) –buried at St. Gregory Catholic Cemetery in St. Nazianz, Town of Eaton [buried in Section 1, Row 15, Lot 5 –stone] [marriage record Calumet 2-38] [death record Manitowoc 7-107]
