William L. Christel, 86, of St. Nazianz, passed away on Monday evening, November 18, 1991 at St. Mary’s Home, Manitowoc. Funeral mass will be held at St. Gregory’s Catholic church in St. Nazianz. Father Leonard Walker and Father Cletus LaMere, officiating.

He was born on October 6, 1905, in Manitowoc County, son of the late Albert and Minnie Kaltenbrun Christel. He attended St. Gregory’s School.

He farmed in the town of Liberty and was formerly employed by Chilton Canning Company and Miller Implement. He was also the owner and operator of St. Nazianz Heating and Sheet Metal.

He married Loretta Schnettler on November 24, 1925 at St. Nazianz. She preceded him in death on November 29, 1979. He then married Elsie Pankratz on October 3, 1980, at School Hill. She preceded him in death on February 14, 1988.

He was a former member of the St. Nazianz Fire Department, St. Gregory’s Holy Name Society, a Charter Member of the St. Nazianz Lion’s Club and currently member of Holy Trinity Parish of School Hill.

Survivors include three sons and two daughters-in-law, Father David Christel S.D.S., Chilton; Dick and Darlene Christel, Reedsville; Ronald and Janet Christel, Valders; four daughters and sons-in-law, LaVerne and Ted Hunter, Sherman Oaks, Calif.; Lorraine and Jerome Bechle, Green Bay; Joanne and Glenroy Koeppen, St. Nazianz; Carol and Dean Leschke, Rural Newton; 40 grandchildren; 46 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sisters, and one grandson.
