Endries, John Peter (Sept. 17, 1901-March 7, 1957 –husband of Rose Burkart [married June 5, 1923 at St. Gregory Catholic Church in St. Nazianz, Town of Eaton] –after his wife Rose died from tuberculosis on Sept. 29, 1928, John re-married to Rosalinda Woelfel [married April 15, 1931 at St. Gregory Catholic Church in St. Nazianz, Town of Eaton] –son of John Endries and Mary Gellings –born Town of Eaton on his parents' farm at 17726 Town Line Road –farmer in Town of Schleswig and Eaton –on June 23, 1924 purchased the 100 acre farm at 17615 Townline Road in Section 1, Town of Schleswig –lost this farm to foreclosure on Dec. 21, 1933 –on March 30, 1938 purchased his parents' 140 acre farm centered at 17726 Townline Road in Section 36, Town of Eaton –he had likely worked this farm since 1928, when his parents moved to St. Nazianz –owned this farm until his death in 1957 –the farm then went to his widow Rosalinda and her second husband Norbert Schnell –on April 24, 1948 purchased the Matt Meyer feed mill at 117 South Second Avenue in St. Nazianz –owned this mill until his death in 1957 –his widow Rosalinda then sold this feed mill on Aug. 16, 1957 –John's sand truck broke through the ice at Pigeon Lake and he drowned –"asphyxiation, drowning –accident at lake, truck breaks through ice of lake" –"Endries, well known throughout this mid-Manitowoc County area as a St. Nazianz feed mill operator and trucker, in addition to his farming, had been spreading sand from his farm south of here upon the ice for cottage owners who wanted their beaches improved for the summer. A son of the late John and Mary Gelling Endries, he was born on his present Eaton farm three miles south of here, Sept. 17, 1901. He attended St. Gregory's Catholic School here and on Sept. 29, 1928, married Miss Rose Burkart of St. Nazianz Although she died three years later, the couple had three children. One of them is the son, Alois. Two others, Eugene and Arthur, died earlier.
His second marriage, in 1931, was to Miss Rosalinda Woelfel, also of St. Nazianz. She survives, along with four sons, James, Leo, Mark and Roger, all at home, and seven daughters, Mrs. Delmar Lettenberger (Selzina) and Mrs. Richard Lettenberger (Genrose) both of Manitowoc, Mrs. Henage Maesellas (Estella), Milwaukee, and Florence, Anna Mae, Carol Jane and Joanne, all at home; and four grandchildren.
Also surviving are four brothers, Clemens, St. Nazianz, Herman (address unknown), Wilfred, Neenah, and Alvin, Potter: and one sister, . Mrs. Math Binversie, School Hill.
Services will be held at St. Gregory's Catholic Church here at 10 a.m. Monday with the Rev. Denis Cooney, pastor, celebrant of the requiem mass. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.
