Death in St. Nazianz on Wed. last week of Gerhard Gehling.
The funeral took place Sunday.

Gellings, Gerhard (Jan. 13, 1828-Oct. 21, 1896 –husband of Theodora Breuns [married in 1855 in Milwaukee] –son of John Herman Gellings and Elizabeth Linzen [John Herman Gellings was born in 1780 and died Aug. 31, 1837 –born and died in Till, Germany –was the son of Lambert Gellings and Johanna Proest –married to Elizabeth Linzen on Aug. 3, 1827 at Till, Germany –Elizabeth Linzen was born Oct. 20, 1798 in Moyland, Germany, which is near Till –she was the daughter of Arnold Linzen and Jockemina or Jacobina Sanders –Elizabeth died in 1889 in Milwaukee County and is buried at St. Martin Catholic Cemetery in the far southwestern side of Milwaukee County] –born Till, Germany –immigrated to the US in 1852 with his mother and 3 siblings –immigrated to the US on the boat Jane D. Cooper departing from the Port of Havre, France, arriving in the Port of New York on June 25, 1852 –farmer in Town of Eaton –from May 20, 1868 to April 16, 1874 owned the house at 103 South First Avenue in St. Nazianz –on April 16, 1874 purchased the 80 acre farm at 8526 Greendale Road in Section 26, Town of Eaton from Peter Kaiser –on Jan. 31, 1896 sold this farm to two of his sons, Peter and Joseph Gellings –Gerhard and Theodora then retired to their new house in St. Nazianz –on June 14, 1893 purchased 3.5 vacant acres at 100 West Court in St. Nazianz and had a house built –Gerhard lived in this house until his death in 1896 –his widow Theodora lived here until her death on Feb. 4, 1904 –this house was sold on Jan. 31, 1896 to their daughter Gertrude Gellings –from Dec. 18, 1885 to May 29, 1896 owned the 40 acres of swampland in the SW1/4 of the NE1/4 of Section 8, Town of Eaton –died from “cardiac dropsy”) –buried at St. Gregory Catholic Cemetery in St. Nazianz, Town of Eaton [buried in Section 1, Row 14, Lot 4 –stone] [death record Manitowoc 4-371]
