Gerhard, Mary Anna (April 4, 1863-Feb. 15, 1954 –single –daughter of Joseph Gerhard and Anna Kramer –born New York City –moved with her parents and siblings to St. Nazianz in 1865 –music teacher – “Her training was in music and art, and for many years she gave private lessons in music. Miss Gerhard was active as a picture painter up to her 90th birthday.” –from obit –lived most of her life in the house her father had built at 217 Church Street in St. Nazianz –lived here from the early 1870’s until her death in 1954 –from Aug. 26, 1902 to April 14, 1937 owned the house at 219 Church Street in St. Nazianz –may have lived in this house for short periods but for most of those years used it as rental property –spent the last 5 years of life at St. Agnes Hospital in Fond du Lac –died in City of Fond du Lac –died from “cerebral hemorrhage –general arteriosclerosis –myocardial and coronary insufficiency –senility”) –buried at St. Gregory Catholic Cemetery in St. Nazianz, Town of Eaton [buried in Section 2, Row 5, Lot 1 –stone] [death record Manitowoc 47-291]

MARY GERHARD, 90, one of the oldest residents of St. Nazianz, and who spent he greater part of her life in the village, died Monday morning at St. Agnes Hospital, Fond du Lac, where she resided the past five years. Miss Gerhard suffered a stroke Feb. 6.
Funeral servies will be held at 9 a.m. Thursday at the Kellenbenz Funeral Home, St. Nazianz, and at 9:30 a.m. at St. Gregory Catholic Church. The Rev. Frederick Dorn, S.D.S., will officiate at the solemn Mass. He will be assisted by two fathers from the Salvatorian Seminary, and burial will be in the parish cemetery.
Miss Gerhard was born April 4, 1863, in New York City and came to Wisconsin with her parents, the late Joseph and Anna Kramer Gerhard, when 2 years old. She attended Notre Dame Boarding School in Milwaukee during the time of Mother Caroline, the foundress of the American Province of the School Sisters of Notre Dame. Her training was in music and art, and for many years she gave private lessons in music. Miss Gerhard was active as a picture painter up to her 90th birthlay (sic).
She served as housekeepeer for her brother, the late Rev. A.J. Gerhard, when he held pastoral charges in southern Wisconsin communities and elsewhere and again during his retirement until his death in 1929. In the intervening years Miss Gerhard, who was a member of the Third Order
of St. Francis, resided with her parents.
Survivors include a sister, Mrs. Rose Baumgartner of St. Nazianz and seven nieces and nephews, Sister M. Antonita, C.S.S., of Marian College of Fond du Lac, Mrs. Mathew Meyer and Anthony and Joseph Baumgartner of St. Nazianz, Joseph and Alex Gerhard of Rt. 1, Kiel, and Frank Baumgartner of Mishawaka, Ind., and 26 grand nieces and nephews. Five brothers and two sisters preceded her in death.
