Goetz, Alois (Dec. 22, 1849-April 19, 1901 –husband of Katherine Schuessler [married March 1, 1881 at St. George Catholic Church in Town of Wilson, Sheboygan County] –son of John Martin Goetz and Margaretha Hess –born in Schlierstadt, Baden –immigrated to the US on the boat Probus departing from the Port of Antwerp, Belgium, arriving in the Port of New York on April 9, 1853 in company of his parents and 5 siblings –carpenter and wood carver –made many of the altars in St. Nazianz and in neighboring parishes –in the 1880 census for the Town of Liberty, Alois is shown as a single person boarding at the former Wisconsin House in St. Nazianz –he is listed as a carpenter –on Sept. 25, 1880 purchased the former planing mill that was located on East Main Street in St. Nazianz just east from the location of the future grocery at 103 South Fourth Avenue in St. Nazianz –this former mill had been renovated into a large house holding two families –Alois owned this house until selling on March 8, 1888 –from Dec. 29, 1888 to Feb. 1, 1892 owned the house at 203 East Main Street in St. Nazianz –on Feb. 5, 1890 purchased the vacant lot at 109 South Fourth Avenue in St. Nazianz and had a house and a dry goods store built –the dry goods business was in operation until the fall of 1895, when it was moved to Mishicot –after the death of his wife Katherine on Jan. 7, 1896, Alois moved back to St. Nazianz and lived in the house at 109 South Fourth Avenue until his death in 1901 –in the 1900 census for the Town of Eaton, Alois is shown as a widower and a cabinet maker living at this house with his 6 children –died from “Bright’s and heart disease –heart failure”) –buried at St. Gregory Catholic Cemetery in St. Nazianz, Town of Eaton [buried in Section 1, Row 17, Lot 29 –stone] [birth record from the Schlierstadt Catholic Church in Baden] [marriage record Sheboygan 6-30] [death record Manitowoc 7-104]
