Gutman, Joseph (Sept. 30, 1858-May 8, 1931 –husband of Helen Rauch [1859-1920] –married April 13, 1880 at St. Gregory Catholic Church in St. Nazianz, Town of Eaton –son of Cornelius Gutman and Justina Wiesler –born Town of Liberty –farmer in Town of Eaton –on March 19, 1880 purchased 70 acres of farmland from his parents’ farm centered at 17324 Carstens Lake Road in Section 18, Town of Liberty and had a new farmstead created (with a Sears and Roebuck farm house) at 6202 County Highway A in Section 13, Town of Eaton –on June 1, 1908 Joseph sold this 70 acre farm to his son-in-law Peter Christel and his wife Rose Gutman –on June 11, 1908 purchased the newly built Sears and Roebuck house at 103 Birch Court in St. Nazianz –Helen lived in this house until her death on Oct. 20, 1920 –Joseph also likely lived here until his death in 1931 –died from “apoplexy”) –buried at St. Gregory Catholic Cemetery in St. Nazianz, Town of Eaton [buried in Section 3, Row 6, Lot 16 –stone] [marriage record Manitowoc 4-160] [death record Manitowoc 26-414]

St. Nazianz Man Dies At His Home At Age 72
Joseph Gutman died Friday morning at 8:00 o'clock at his home at St. Nazianz. He was 72 years old. Death was caused by a stroke.
Mr. Gutman was born at St. Nazianz, Sept. 29, 1858. He always made his home in or near the village. He married Helen Rauch April 13, 1880.
She died 11 years ago. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Peter Christel and Mrs. Anton Baumgartner, both of St. Nazianz, and one son, John, of Allenton, Wis. There also is one brother, John, of St. Nazianz and the following nephews and nieces; Rev. Joseph Rauch of Francis Creek, Dr. W.A. Rauch of Valders, Dr. A. Rauch Kenosha, Professor H. Rauch, Fred Rauch, Peter Rauch, Max Rauch all of Milwaukee, Mrs. Andrew Groh of St. Nazianz, Mrs. William Lulloff of Kiel, Miss Anna Rauch and Miss Elizabeth Rauch of Milwaukee. He was a member of the Catholic Knights of Wisconsin and of the Holy Name society of St. Gregory's church.
The funeral will be held Monday morning at 10:00 o'clock from the St. Gregory's catholic church at St. Nazianz with a solemn requiem high mass sung by his nephew, the Rev. Joseph Rauch of Francis Creek.
