Augusta Siewert, the daughter of Frederick William Siewert and Johanna (Hannah) Muir, was born in Germany Dec 1874 (1900 census). The Port of Baltimore ship's manifest stated she was from Muncheberg, Germany and departed on October 12, 1893 from the Port of Bremen, Germany on the H H Meier and arrived in Baltimore in October 26, 1893 at the age of 18. She was sponsored by a brother in Toledo, who paid her passage. She arrived with $31 and a ticket to Toledo.

On March 13, 1895 (Wood County, Ohio) Augusta married Henry John Apel (1870-1928), the son of George and Dorothea Thon Apel. Henry was the step-son of her sister Minnie Siewert Apel, who was George's second wife.

The June 12, 1900 Federal Census, Toledo, Ohio recorded that Augusta and JOHN Henry had two children: Maggie (1895), age 4, and Ralph (1897) age 3. The April 20, 1910 Federal Census, Toledo, Ohio recorded that four of the five Apel children were alive: Margaret (Maggie), 14; Ralph, 12; Lawrence, 7: Minnie (Florence), 2.
