Mrs. Rosa Boyd Dies;Lived here 82 years
Mrs. Rosa Boyd passed away in her sleep Nov 12 at the hospital annex. Mrs. Boyd was one of Clay Center's oldest residents, having lived here approximately 82 years. On December 5, Mrs. Boyd would have observed her 91st birthday.
Born near Black River Falls, Wis., Dec. 5, 1863, as Rosa Brooks, she came to Clay Center with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Dexter Brooks and other members of the family when she was 8 years old. Their first home was a sod house. She is the last of her family and also one of the few members of the Women's Relief Corps.
Her husband, M. B. Boyd, preceded her in death in June 1925. Mrs. Boyd and her daughter, Mrs. George Waite, Sr., have made their home together at 620 A street, however, the past few months Mrs. Boyd has been cared for at the hospital annex. She had been in failing health for sometime and members of her family have been here to visit her recently.
Surviving are the son, Harry Huckstep and wife of Portland, Ore.; two daughters, Mrs. George Waite Sr. of Clay Center and Mrs. Harry Ruch and Mr Ruch of Portland, Ore., who are expected to come Sunday or Monday. There are also three grandchildren and six great grandchildren and other relatives.
Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at 2 in the Peterson-Neill funeral home with the Rev. Elmer L. Brooks officiating. Burial in Greenwood Cemetery.
