Hecker, Joseph (March 19, 1852-April 30, 1938 –husband of Maria Heinzen [1855-1933] –married Oct. 14, 1879 at St. Gregory Catholic Church in St. Nazianz, Town of Eaton –son of Jacob Hecker and Katharine Heinzen –born Koblenz, Germany –arrived in the US with his parents via New York in July of 1856, coming to Town of Manitowoc Rapids in 1856 –farmer –from Sept. 15, 1877 to June 25, 1879, Joseph owned the 40 acres of the NE1/4 of the NE1/4 of Section 32, Town of Liberty –these 40 acres were bought from and then sold back to Joseph’s parents, who owned the farm centered at 8319 Pigeon Lake Road in Section 28, Town of Liberty –from June 25, 1879 to Aug. 11, 1904, Joseph owned a 100 acre farm centered at 9919 Greendale Road in Section 1, Town of Schleswig –from March 21, 1898 to March 9, 1906, Joseph owned the 80 aces of the N1/2 of the SW1/4 of Section 21, Town of Schleswig –Joseph sold these 80 acres to his son-in-law Joseph Schuler and his wife Caroline Hecker –for the short period of Sept. 27, 1901 to April 1, 1902 owned the 80 acre farm at 9517 Greendale Road in Section 36, Town of Eaton –in 1904 retired from the farm and moved to St. Nazianz –from Aug. 11, 1904 to March 27, 1933 owned the lot with house at 117 South Third Avenue in St. Nazianz –in the 1905 census for the Town of Eaton, Joseph and Maria are shown living in this house with their sons Peter and Joseph –from May 20, 1905 to July 28, 1933 owned two vacant lots in St. Nazianz, which later become 108 and 110 South Sixth Avenue –died from “carcinoma of prostate –senility –heart disease –coronary sclerosis”) –buried at St. Gregory Catholic Cemetery in St. Nazianz, Town of Eaton [buried in Section 3, Row 2, Lot 26 –stone] [marriage record Manitowoc 4-150] [death record Manitowoc 31-722]

Hold Rites For Aged Manitowoc County Resident
St. Nazianz.-Funeral services were held here today for Joseph Hecker, 86, resident of Manitowoc county for more than 80 years, who passed away Saturday at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Joseph Schuler, two miles southwest of here.
Born in Germany in 1852, Mr. Hecker came with his parents to Manitowoc Rapids when he was a boy. Later he purchased a farm in the town of Eaton and in 1879 married Miss Mary Heinzen. The couple operated the farm until 1905, when they sold it and moved to St. Nazianz. In 1929 Mr. and Mrs. Hecker observed their golden wedding
anniversary. Three years later they made their home with Mrs. Schuler.
Mrs. Hecker died in 1933.
Survivors are a son, Joseph Jr., of Greenwood, Wis.; a daughter, Mrs. Schuler, of Eaton; an adopted daughter, Mrs. Edward Kustka, of Evanston, Ill.; 23 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.
