The funeral of Mrs. L. J. Newton held at Bethel Baptist Church, of which she was a member, on the 16th (Oct), was largely attended. Services were conducted by Rev. A. J. Arthurs. He was assisted by Rev. Anzie Weimer, of Fauquier Co., also by Mr. Farmer, whom she requested to read the 14th chapter of Job and comment on the 15th verse. Mrs. Newton had selected the hymns to be used at her funeral: "Jesus Lover Of My Soul" and "How Firm a Foundation". She was a lover of church work, a model Christian in her home, attentive to the sick and those in distress. Her greatest pleasure was singing and reading scriptures. She is sadly missed in her church and Sunday school, but "blessed are the dead who die in the Lord".
