McCabe, Simon (March 1, 1827-Sept. 24, 1870 –husband of Mary Ann McCabe [after Simon’s death in 1870, Mary Ann re-married to Nelson Williams on Sept. 1, 1871] –son of Francis McCabe [1782-1862] and Sarah Richards [ -1840] –born in County Monagham, Ireland –arrived in US via Buffalo, New York in June of 1851 –applied for naturalization on Oct. 25, 1854 –on May 14, 1855 purchased from the US Government the 80 acres of the E1/2 of the SE1/4 of Section 5, Town of Eaton –due to the non-payment of property taxes, these 80 acres were sold by Manitowoc County to John Curtis on April 8, 1856 –despite Simon no longer owning these 80 acres, he sold the southern half of these 80 to Patrick Finnegan on Oct. 1, 1859 and sold the northern half on Oct. 3, 1859 to John Murphy –it seems that Simon moved back and forth from Ops in Victoria County, Ontario, Canada and the Town of Eaton until the final move to Town of Eaton in 1865 –on Dec. 31, 1867, Simon’s wife Mary purchased the 80 acres of the W1/2 of the SW1/4 of Section 9, Town of Eaton and had a farmstead created at 22004 Groh Road –on the 1870 census for the Town of Eaton, Simon is shown living on this farm with his wife Mary and their 8 children) –buried at St. Gregory Catholic Cemetery in St. Nazianz, Town of Eaton [buried in Old Section 1, Row 11, Lot 16] [no county death record]
