1880 census Tomales
age 36, single, Dairyman
living with partner Wm Armstrong & family

1884 First Marriage to Jane
There is a marriage certificate for John Alexander, age 37 and Jennie Morrow, age 25. Married in Sonoma county on April 30, 1884. A very strong possibility this is a fit, even though Jane, which is inscribed on tombstone is Jennie (often times interspersed or a nickname.)

1888 widowed
The 1900 census documents John having been married for 6 years and Martha (wife #2) for 2 years. Difference of 4 years, must be the 4 years he was married to Jennie.

1899 Second Marriage to Martha
March 6; Martha Kelly
Martha immigrated to US in 1892

1900 Census Tomales
John and Martha with their 6 month old son
Occupation: Dairyman

1910 Census Tomales
John and Martha with 2 children
notation of John married 2x
Johnie (10) and Pearl (7)

1920 Census Tomales
John and Martha, John (20) Pearl (16)
"hired man" Harry Hollingsworth (20) who
ended up marrying their daughter

Tomales notes
Our village was thrown into excitement this morning by a runaway team owned by Mr. John Alexander, living southeast of Tomales. He was thrown to the ground with so much force as to inflict quite a severe wound on his head. The horse, taking the north road, passed over the hill, and coming to so short a curve in the road were unable to make it, and consequently plunged down the bank, through the fence, and landed in the field below, where a general smash-up followed.
