Harold was born to Hardy and Bessie Whatley. He married Lorene Walker on December 8, 1947, in DeQueen, Arkansas. They had two daughters, Kathy Bullard and Janice Warthen. Harold was a lifelong resident of Bethel.
Harold served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a tanker in the 782nd Tank Battalion in Germany. He was a rancher and was also a road grader operator for the State of Oklahoma in northern McCurtain County.
Harold was preceded in death by his wife, Lorene, his parents Hardy and Bessie Whatley, two brothers, Todd Whatley and O'Neal Whatley and three sisters, Ethel Middleton, Estelle Moore and Opal Smith.
