Joe Turner Boyd, 72, of 240 Stone Street, died Saturday, February 20, 2010, at his home. Born March 13, 1937, in Lupton City, TN, he was the son of the late Johnie L. and Mildred Dalton Boyd and the husband of the late Mary Pettit Boyd.

He was a 1955 graduate of Cherryville High School, Cherryville, NC, and Western Carolina University, Cullowhee, NC, Class of 1962, with a degree in chemistry where he was a member of Tau Kappa Epsilon Fraternity (Scroll number 62). He was retired from Springs Industries, Lyman Complex, and had previously worked at Milliken and Company of Spartanburg and Old Fort Finishing in Old Fort, NC. He was a U.S. Army Veteran, a member of the Union County Civil Air Patrol, and of the Episcopalian faith.

Survivors include a daughter, Tanya Boyd Littlejohn of Pacolet Mills; two stepsons, Robert F. Nash and William M. Nash, both of Whitney; three grandchildren, Eli Bell, Kris Bell, and Ivy Littlejohn; two step-grandchildren, Andrew Nash and Anthony Nash; four sisters, Elaine Hallman and husband Garland of Rutherfordton, NC, Margaret Vaughn and husband Ron of Athens, GA, Elizabeth (Libby) Mervin of Myrtle Beach, and Nancy Costner and husband Dennis of Cherryville, NC; and two brothers, Ronald E. Boyd and wife Judy of Cherryville, NC, and Johnie L. Boyd, Jr. of Dallas, NC. He was predeceased by a sister, Patricia Parker.

A memorial service will be held at 7:00 PM Thursday, February 25, 2010, at Floyd's Pacolet Chapel conducted by the Rev. Richard Burton. The family will receive friends following the service.
