Hanchett, a native of Grand Rapids, produced Junior League shows early in his career in several cities, went to New York in the 1930's where he produced Broadway plays and later took acting troops around the country and overseas to stage productions for the American Legion for those in military service.
Hanchett's best known Broadway works were "Sunday Night at Nine," a musical review that ran several years, and "After These Pleasures," a play by Dorothy Parker featuring Shirley Booth.
He went to Mexico City in the 1950's where he produced British theater plays until his retirement several years ago when he returned to Grand Rapids.
