Another Old Settler Laid To Rest

Many people gathered here on Tuesday morning to attend the funeral services held at St. Gregory's church at 10 o'clock and to pay their last respects to Henry Wesling who was well known around here as one of the older group of settlers. His death occurred at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Rudolph Kirsch at Elkhart Lake last Friday and was attributed to the infirmities of old age.


Mr. Wesling was preceded in death by his wife and two of his daughters, Mrs. Adam Platten and Mrs. Nic Backhaus.


He is survived by five daughters and four sons; Mesdames

Nicholas Wagner, William Klein, Nick Welter of Cleveland, Rudolph Kirsch and John Lindeman of Elkhart Lake; Bernard of Plymouth, Frank of Greenwood, Henry who makes his house in North Dakota and Joseph in Marshfield.

Wesling, Henry (also shown as James Henry) (July 1, 1844-May 11, 1928 –husband of Maria Bushmann [married April 10, 1866 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Town of Herman, Sheboygan County –Maria Bushmann was born June 7, 1845 to Franziskus Bushmann and Gertrude Grilsen [Grezen] at Westerkotten near Lippstadt, Westphalia, Germany –after giving birth to 6 children, Maria died on Dec. 1, 1880 and is buried at St. Joseph Cemetery in Town of Herman, Sheboygan County –St. Joseph Church was abandoned in the 1920's] –after the death of his first wife Maria Bushman, Henry Wesling re-married to Anna Schmidt [married May 24, 1881 at St. Gregory] –six additional children were born from this second marriage –son of Casper Wesling and Maria Christina Himmel [Casper Wesling was born May 17, 1799 in Munster, Westphalia, Germany –in the mid-1830's immigrated with his wife Maria Christina Himmel and family, settling in Schuyler, Winchester County, New York –sometime after 1844, the family moved to "Schwartzwald" by St. Joseph Catholic Church, Town of Herman, Sheboygan County –Casper died June 4, 1866 and was buried at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Town of Herman, Sheboygan County –Maria Christina Himmel was born May 27, 1802 in Lippstadt, Westphalia, which is near the Dutch border and died Nov. 13, 1880] –born in Schuyler, Westchester County, New York –on July 23, 1901 purchased the newly built house at 210 East Main Street –his wife Anna lived in this house until her death in 1923 –Henry lived here until shortly before his death in 1928 –sold this house on Jan. 13, 1928 and died on May 11, 1928 –died from "chronic myocarditis") – 3-7-31 (death record is in Sheboygan County)
