SHINGLEHOUSE, Pa. - Evelyn Jane Haner Bosak Phelps, 86, passed away Sunday (Jan. 10, 2016) at her home.

Born Sept. 13, 1929, in Wellsboro, she was a daughter of the late William and Sarah Brown Haner.

Evelyn was a 1947 graduate of Gaines High School, a graduate of Mansfield State Teachers School and received her master's degree from St. Bonaventure University. After finishing her education, she taught world cultures and home economics at the
Oswayo Valley School District for almost 30 years. While teaching, she was the junior and senior class play adviser, as well as the senior class adviser. In addition, she oversaw many extracurricular activities such as the FHA, band front and miscellaneous clubs.

She was an active member of the St. Theresa's Catholic Church, Shinglehouse, where she was the organist and taught catechism classes. In 1984, her first husband, John Bosak, passed away and she relocated to Naples, Fla. While in Florida, she married Charles Phelps, who also preceded her in death.

Living in Florida, Evelyn used her education background to help mentally handicapped people obtain meaningful employment and was active member of the Lely Presbyterian Church in Naples. After returning to Pennsylvania, Evelyn enjoyed sewing and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Surviving are a daughter, Mary Anne Mureddu of Shinglehouse; three grandchildren, Jessica, Justin and Andrew Mureddu; five great-grandchildren, Alyssa, Michael, Rowan, Emil and Amzi; a brother, William (Toni) Haner of Horseheads, N.Y.; a brother-in-law, Barry Kirlin of Gaines; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Evelyn was predeceased by two husbands; a brother, Milton Haner; and three sisters, Adeline Brown, Marie Bosworth and Isabelle Kirlin.

A memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Oswayo Valley School District.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Hess Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Collins Chapel, Galeton.
