Rauch, Mathias (Jan. 6, 1828-Nov. 22, 1897 –husband of Rosa Benzinger [married Feb. 9, 1853 at Erie, Ohio] –son of John Michael Rauch [Oct. 15, 1787- ] and Agatha Halder [Jan. 29, 1793-1851] who were married Jan. 25, 1821 at Ebenwieler in Donaukreis, Württemberg –born Ebenwieler in Donaukreis, Württemberg, Germany –brother of Anton and Joseph Rauch –immigrated to the US on the boat William Tell departing from the Port of Havre, France, arriving in the Port of New York on June 14, 1851 in company of his siblings Anton, Cresensia, and Benedict –applied for naturalization on Sept. 11, 1854 –farmer in Town of Eaton –on Oct. 2, 1855, Mathias purchased from the US Government the 80 acres of the N1/2 of the NE1/4 of Section 21, Town of Eaton –a farmstead was then created on this land –on Dec. 6, 1865, Mathias sold this 80 acre farm to Henry Niederprum –on May 15, 1865, he purchased the 80 acre farm at 22520 Groh Road in Section 17, Town of Eaton –on Nov. 21, 1871 purchased the 40 acres of the SW1/4 of the SE1/4 of Section 16, Town of Eaton and added this land to his already existing farm –on Dec. 10, 1873, Mathias was granted by the State of Wisconsin the 40 acres of swampland in the SE1/4 of the NW1/4 of Section 8, Town of Eaton –he owned the farm at 22520 Groh Road until his death in 1897 –after his death this farm was sold to his son Joseph Rauch and his wife Victoria Sprang –from Nov. 15, 1869 to June 26, 1886, he owned the 65.48 acres of the fractional W1/2 of the SW1/4 of Section 6, Town of Eaton –for the brief period of Dec. 27, 1875 to Jan. 17, 1876 owned the 80 acres that later became the farm at 9205 State Highway 67 in Section 32, Town of Eaton –from Nov. 30, 1866 to Jan. 31, 1876 was the post master of the Niles post office –“died suddenly of heart disease”) –buried at St. Gregory Catholic Cemetery in St. Nazianz, Town of Eaton [buried in Section 2, Row 6, Lot 12 –stone] [death record Manitowoc 6-28]
