Wilson, William H.—Civil War Pension File, National Archives, Washington, DC: Born in Buckheart (Fulton) Illinois on 3 February 1847. Married Mary C. on 10 December 1867. Their only child mentioned in the file was Blake H., who was "crippled for life" and born 20 May 1888.
The family lived in Canton from 1865 until 1868; Washington, Kansas from 1868 until 1871; Canton, Illinois from 1872 until 1881; 1881 to 1899 in Bushnell, Illinois; and 1899 to 1900 in Corydon, Iowa. In 1901 Mary's address was 5552 Drexel Avenue, Chicago, Illinois.
William H. Wilson was killed in a train accident on 8 January 1900 at Mendota, Illinois while traveling to Chicago. His train was stopped on the track and was hit from behind by another train traveling about thirty miles an hour. The caboose burst into flames and all the cars were driven together. William H. Wilson was buried at Greenwood Cemetery in Canton, Illinois. Mary C. Wilson died 8 April 1925.
