GALLATIN, July 17.—[Special].—The town was startled early this morning to hear of the sudden death of Mrs. Mary Elliott Joyner, wife of an old townsman and merchant, Jesse F. Joyner. She died about 1 o’clock from an attack of paralysis, from which she had suffered several years ago, but it was thought that she was entirely recovered. She will be buried tomorrow afternoon, with services by Rev. M. Reams, of the Methodist Church, of which she was a member. Mrs. Joyner was connected with many noted families of Tennessee and Kentucky. She was a daughter of Harris Odom, a planter of large wealth, and a sister of Capt. Jo Odom, a gallant Confederate soldier with Forrest, of Mrs. John L. Saffarans, Mrs. Lucien Temple, Mrs. Leonidas Baker, and Mrs. John S. Baber. Her mother was a daughter of Joseph T. Elliston, an old Mayor of Nashville, and sister of W.R. Elliston and Joseph Elliston of Nashville. Dr. David W. Yandell, the Louisville surgeon, married a daughter of W.R. Elliston.
