Born on May 6, 1923, Eleanor Landers, she was given the baptism name of Frances and the confirmation name of Marie.
She is the daughter of the late Dennis George Landers and the late Honora Wallace Landers. Her sister Mary Ann Landers predeceased her.
An avid dancer, Eleanor met her husband to be, John Antes Sears, a native of Utica, NY, at a New Year's Eve USO dance at Camp Ellis in 1943. They married on July 10, 1950, in Saint Joseph's Catholic Church of Henry, Illinois. John predeceased her in 2003 after nearly 53 years of marriage.
Eleanor had two children, Dennis Landers Sears, a 1978 graduate of the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy. and Nora Ann (Sears) Bitar, a 1989 graduate of Bradley University, from which her dad also graduated. She was the proud grandmother of five grandchildren: Robert, Patrick, and Emily Sears and Adam and Natalie Bitar.
She is a graduate of Saint Mary Parochial School, the former Henry Township High School, and the former Dickinson Business College of Peoria.
She was employed by the Hampshire Swine Registry of Peoria for six years before her marriage and the Lee County Farm Bureau at Amboy, Illinois, for two years following her marriage. She belonged to Saint Joseph Catholic Church (which became St. John XXIII), was a member of its choir, and a past president of its Altar and Rosary Society. She was a past regent of Our Lady of Victory Circle of the Daughters of Isabella. Eleanor was a member of the Henry American Legion Auxiliary 323 of which she was vice president, and president for the 1992-93 year. In 2002, she was its chaplain.
She was a member of the Henry Historical and Genealogical Society and was a life member of both the Marshall and Putnam Counties' Historical Societies, and a charter member of the Charles Pardew Memorial Association. She also belonged to the Peoria Amateur Music Society and in her golden years she enjoyed attending its many musical productions. She and John also belonged to the Creve Coeur Club where they enjoyed many dinner dances listening and dancing to the music of their youth. Additionally, she was a stockholder of the Marshall-Putnam Fair Association, as well as a member of the M-P Home Extension plus the Marshall County Heart Association.
A life-long Cubs fan, she was thrilled to see them win it all in 2016!
She is survived by her children and grandchildren. Eleanor cherished her many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She will be missed by all who knew her.
