Robert (Bob or Ike) Duncan quietly passed away at home with his family. He was born in Waukegan, IL. The son of Donald Dixon Duncan and Emily Marie Korpi grew up with a thirst for adventure and the outdoors. Bob enlisted in the Navy at 17 and served his country as a radio airman on torpedo bombers. As he was preparing to leave the states, the war abruptly ended, and he returned to the Midwest and enrolled at Drake University in Des Moines, IA. At Drake, Bob met his love, Mary, and graduated with a B.A. in journalism. The two married in 1951 and moved to San Diego for a year working for H.L. Yoh Co. where he began his career as a technical writer. They then moved to Grand Rapids, MI, where he worked for Lear, Inc. and E.L. Ericson & Assoc. In 1960 they returned to San Diego where he worked for General Dynamics/Convair until retiring in 1984. Robert's hobbies included coaching his children's Little League and Bobby-Sox teams. The family hunted and camped often in the San Diego mountains and desert. Each summer, they camped in the Sierras, trout fishing, gold panning and hiking. Bob was an avid Padres fan, active in Clan Donnachaidh, Roadtrek Assoc., and was a member of the Convair Alumni Assoc. Bob was predeceased by his parents, older sister, Esther Wendel of Phoenix, AZ, and younger brother, Melford, of Hemet, CA. Surviving family members include his wife, Mary, older brother, Donald Jr. of Zion, IL, a younger sister, Lillian Taylor of Arroyo Grande, CA, four children, Allison of Cambria, CA, Colin of Cathedral City, CA, twins Edie and Cameron of San Diego, CA, and five grandchildren, Shelbie, Wesley, Casey, Torrey, and Randall. Private memorial services will be held at Miramar National Cemetery, Friday, October 19.
