He was preceded in death by his parents M.S. and Grace Miller. A native of Whitley County, KY he came to Baton Rouge in the early 60;s via a transfer with South Central Bell, from whom he retired after 35 years of service.
He was affectionately known as "Pop" by family and raised 4 children and was blessed with 9 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. Pop was a member of the "Greatest Generation" as a veteran of World War 2, serving in the Army Air Corp. An avid sportsman, he was a loyal member of the Harold Bourgeouis Hunting Club. Though Pop loved Louisiana, his overwhelming devotion to the Bluegrass Commonwealth of Kentucky and his beloved Kentucky Wildcats was legendary. A man of strength, conviction and compassion, he was loved by all and has left a legacy of love and devotion.
Pop is survived by his loving wife, Kathryn Upton Miller, daughters, Rita Miller Shelton and her husband, Junior and Jane Miller Peak and her husband Mike, sons Jeffery and his wife Kim and Alan and his wife Karen. He is also survived by grandchildren, Brandi Shelton Juneau, Lindsey Shelton Duvall, Scott and Chase Shelton, Brittany and Dustin Miller, Matthew and Daniel Peak and Allison Miller. His great grandchildren are Camden and Addison Juneau, Lillian and Eloise Duval, Porter Shelton and Kate Miller.
The family is eternally grateful to our "Angel of Mercy", Christine Williams, who came to us a time when we needed her most. She tended to Pop's needs with tender, loving care. Our most sincere thanks also go to his other caregivers, Pam, Regina, Octavia and Mrs. West.
Visitation at Resthaven Funeral Home, 11817 Jefferson Hwy. Visitation will resume at Broadmoor Baptist Church 9755 Goodwood Blvd., until religious services. Burial in Resthaven Gardens of Memory.
