Laura Mae Riggan. age 88, a resident of Brewster, Washington, died Monday, December 24, 2001 at Brewster.Born September 12, 1913 at Pine Grove in Dallas County, she was a daughter of the late Robert A. and Laura Nutt Smith. As a young girl she lived near Fordyce, Bunn and Carthage.She worked in the food services department and nursing at the Okanogan-Douglas District Hospital for J 2 years. She and her husband were owners of an apple orchard. After her retirement, she managed the family ranch cookhouse for several years.Mrs. Riggan was a charter member of the New Testament Baptist Church at Brewster and she also helped organi7.e the New Testament Baptist Academy.She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Riggan; three children: Mac, Mary and Shirley; nine J brothers, one sister and one great granddaughter.Survivors include five sons, Roy D., Joe, James, Bob. and Jerry; two daughters, Reba Gebbers and Sue Lubash; 32 grandchildren, 80 great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild; two sisters, Ida Mae Gillis of Fordyce and Bertha Baker of Lewiston, Idaho; one brother Ralph "Ted" Smith of Fremont, CA.Funeral services were held Monday, December 31, at Barnes Chapel at Brewster with her son, Rev. James Riggan and long time family friend, Rev. Ray Glessner, officiating.
