Only daughter of millionaire rancher and businessman Joel Parker Whitney and his third wife Lucy Ann Chadwick, she grew up surrounded by wealth and privilege. She twice appeared in Sunset Magazine, promoting her father's Placer Citrus Colony development. She eloped from college with Harvard football star Thomas Graydon in 1904 and divorced him in 1910. In 1911 at San Francisco, she wed Joseph Columbus Wheeler, whom she later divorced. Her third and last husband was James Gillespie Blaine Jr., to whom she was wed at the time of the 1920 census. She died at the Sisters' Hospital, Sacramento, following a short illness. She was survived by her brother Vincent, two nieces, and four nephews.
