Obituary for William Harrsion Cupp. Preston County Journal. Kingwood, WV. Thur., Mar. 7, 1912.
Excerpt -- William Harrison Cupp was born Feb. 7, 1840, and died Feb. 26, 1912 and was therefore aged 72 years and 19 days. He answered the country's call and enlisted in the 6th, W.Va. Cavalry Co. H., and served 3 years, one month and 21 days. During this time he endured many hardships. At the second battle of Bull Run he was deserted by his comrades and wounded and almost taken captive. He was married to Hannah E. Rodeheaver on July 4, 1865. To them were born two children, Alberta M., who married Kenneth Otto, and died Aug. 3, 1904, and Walter C., who lives at Morgantown. He joined the M. E. Church in 1870 and remained a member until his death. He was quiet and unassuming in disposition, industrious and strictly honest in his dealings. The people of Pleasant district where he was born and lived nearly his entire life, feel that they have lost a good neighbor and friend. The funeral sermon was preached by Rev. D. W. M. Feather to a large and sorrowful congregation at Centenary Church on Feb. 28. Besides his faithful wife and son he leaves one sister, Mrs. Sarah Harner of Terra Alta, seven grandchildren and numerous friends and relatives to mourn his loss.
