LEXINGTON – Part of what made BETTY ALLARD such a great educator was her gregarious smile and friendly nature. Her willingness to help others was her second nature. Those combined qualities resulted in a life invested in others, while bringing glory to God.

Betty passed away Saturday morning October 29, 2011 in MedCentral Mansfield Hospital. She was 68.

Born Elizabeth Mary Allard on March 28, 1943 in Syracuse, New York, she was the daughter of Charles and Winifred (Wait) Allard. She was gradauted from Cathedral High School in Syracuse, and earned her Bachelors degree and Masters degree in education. For numerous years she taught in the elementary schools of the Albany Catholic Diocese, and served as principal of St. Augustine's Elementary School in Troy, New York.

Betty was a member of Ka-cets and Catholic Women's Club in the Mansfield area, and was a member of and served on the Finance Board of Resurrection Parish Catholic Church.

Since 2005, she and her dear friends Sharon Schultz and Joan Dedden shared a home outside Lexington, where they affectionately modeled "The Golden Girls."

She is also survived by her sister Sister Annette Allard, CSJ (Sister of St. Joseph of Carondelet) of Latham, New York; a brother Michael Charles Allard of upstate New York; aunts Sister Elizabeth Jean Allard, CSJ, of Latham, and Elizabeth Allard Young of Syracuse, along with several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her brothers the Reverend Richard Joseph Allard, CSB, and Hugh John Allard.

Mass of Christian Burial will be offered Wednesday, November 2, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. In Resurrection Parish, 2600 Lexington Avenue, Mansfield, celebrated by the Very Rev. Father Nelson Beaver. Friends may call on the family during the hour prior to the Mass at the church.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Betty's memory to Resurrection Parish may be made at the church.
