John Chenault enlisted in Company A, 2nd Arkansas Calvary Battalion, at Hampton, AR on Feb. 20, 1862. He was transferred to Company H, 2nd AR Calvary Regiment May 15th, then to Company G, 2nd AR Calvary Regiment on Aug 18 of that same year. Pvt. Chenault was captured at Oxford, Mississippi on Dec. 2, 1862, and died on Feb 26, 1863 of chronic diarrhea while incarcerated in the U. S. Military Prison in Alton, IL.
