Marion Maston Folsom
QUITMAN -- Marion Maston Folsom, 63, of Quitman, died Friday, May 3, 2002, at St. Luke's Hospital in Jacksonville, Fla., after a lengthy illness.

Born Aug. 4, 1938, in Brooks County, he was the son of Remer and Pearlie Hatchett Folsom.

He graduated from Morven High School and worked in the grocery industry all of his business life, eventually serving as president and CEO of the Suwannee Swifty Stores Inc. for 17 years.

He also owned and operated the Sand Hill Store.

He was a member of several civic organizations, serving as past president of the Jaycees and Lions Club.

He was on the board of directors of the Georgia Association of Convenience Stores for many years, serving as chairman in 1989 and 1990.

He was a director of the Citizens National Bank of Quitman and a member of the Brooks County Zoning Board.

He was a member of the Quitman United Methodist Church, serving in several administrative board capacities throughout the years.

He is survived by his wife, Geraldine "Gerry" Folsom of Quitman; one daughter, Deidre "DeeDee" (Barry) Carter of Springdale, Ark.; one son, M. Samuel Folsom of Jacksonville, Fla.; and two brothers, James (Loraine) Folsom and Grady (Judy) Folsom, all of Valdosta.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 7, at the Quitman United Methodist Church with the Rev. John Walker officiating.

Burial will follow in Sardis Cemetery in Colquitt County.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
