Sister Serena Steinbach, age 83, a member of the Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity, died Sunday, January 5, 1997, at Holy Family Convent, Manitowoc.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, January 8, 1997, at Holy Family Convent Chapel. Rev. Samuel D. Jadin, O.Praem, will officiate at the Mass of Christian Burial with burial in Holy Family Cemetery, Manitowoc.
The former Luella Steinbach was born October 23, 1913, in Boyd, Wis., daughter of the late Joseph and Catherine Kramer Steinbach. She entered the Convent in 1930 and professed her vows in 1933. Sister Serena earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Holy Family College, Manitowoc, and a Master's Degree from St. Louis University, St. Louis, Mo. Sister Serena served as a teacher at St. Boniface, Manitowoc, St. Mary, Kaukauna, Sacred Heart, Oshkosh, St. Andrew, Potosi, Wis.; Rosecrans High School, Zanesville, Ohio; Holy Family High School, Lindsay, Central Catholic High School, West Point, Neb.; St. Willibrord, Chicago, Ill.; St. Ambrose/Ironwood Catholic Central High, Ironwood and Cross Village, Mich. After retiring from the teaching profession, she performed various tasks at Guernesy Catholic High School, Cambridge, Ohio, and the bursar's office and sewing room at the Motherhouse. Since 1987, she had been a resident of St. Rita Health Center.
Survivors include the Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity; three sisters and a brother-in-law, Sister Luella Steinbach, O.S.F., Manitowoc, Freida Krall, Gilman, Wis., Alvin and Theonilla La Nau, Cadott, Wis.; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Friends may call at Holy Family Convent on Tuesday from 4-8 p.m. A prayer service will be held at 7 p.m. at Holy Family Convent Chapel.
The Pfeffer Funeral Home, Manitowoc, is assisting the family with funeral arrangements.
