D.H. Armstrong, 96 the oldest resident of
Bigelow, Kansas passed away Thursday
afternoon at 5:20 p.m. at Morrill, Kansas.
He had been growing weaker for some time.

Daniel Henry Armstrong was born on
November 1, 1859 at Knoxville, Illinois
and departed this lifeon January 19,
1956 at the age of 96 years, 2 months
and 18 days.

In 1881 he came by covered wagon to
Kansas and on December 15, 1881 he was
married to Mila Ann Cooper who had come
to Kansas with her parents from Iowa.

For many years, Mr. Armstrong was the
postmaster at Bigelow, Kansas and around
the turn of the century served as postmaster
and grocer and also had the telephone
exchange on the southwest corner of the
square, all in the large stone building now
owned by R.F. Millgate. He retired many
years ago.

He leaves several children grandchildren and
great-grandchildren. Children include Mrs.
Bertha Rinehart, Yakima, Washington, Faye
Culbertson Toulon, Illinois, Floyd
Armstrong, Morrill, Kansas, Mrs. Alta
Churchill, Topeka, Kansas, Mrs. Grace Rine-
hart and Mrs. Lena Potter, Bigelow, Kansas;
15 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren
and 3 great-great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held in Frankfort,
Kansas on Sunday afternoon with burial in
the Antioch Cemetery, southwest of
Frankfort, Kansas.

Pallbearers were grandsons, Don Crawford,
Mark Rinehart, Robert Churchill, Otis
Armstrong, Joe Spiller and Guilford
McLeod.
