which is thought to be most likely tuberculosis which also took his son, James Arthur and his granddaughter, Nellie. Fought in the Civil War with the 14th PA Calvary 159th VOLUNTEERS. Wife Mary Adela Hayden died after 3 days in tragic fire at home which caught on her apron after reaching over the fireplace for her glasses.

Frederick R. Martin (1840-1869)

Died
Martin— At his residence in North Union township, November 6th, 1869, Frederick R. Martin, in the 29th year of his age.

In Memoriam
At a regular meeting of the Gallatin Lodge, No. 517, I. O. of O. F., of Pennsylvania, the following preamble and resolutions were adopted.

WHEREAS, It has pleased Almighty God, in His infinite wisdom, to all from this to, we trust, a better world above, our much esteemed friend and well beloved brother, Fred R. Martin. Wherefore, as a tribute of respect to the memory of our departed brother.

Resolved. That in the death of our esteemed brother, we mourn the loss of one, who as a friend was trusty and sincere; as a neighbor, kind, considerate and humane; as a soldier, prompt and tearless and as an Odd Fellow, active, zealous and devoted—faithful to his fellow-man.

Resolved. That we deeply and earnestly sympathize with those upon whom this sad affliction has fallen most heavily, and especially with those who are thus deprived of a guardian and protestor. May they not sorrow as those without hope, but reverently bow in submission to the will of our Heavenly Father, who "doeth all things well."

Resolved. That this Lodge room be draped in black for three months, and that the members wear the usual badge for thirty days.

Resolved. That a copy of the foregoing preamble and resolutions be forwarded to the County papers for publication, and a copy presented to the family of our deceased brother.
